Availability on Xbox Series X|S
Launch and platform notes.
Of Ash and Steel debuted on November 24, 2025 and is available digitally via the Microsoft Store for Xbox Series X|S. No Xbox One version exists; it’s built for the newer consoles. Not included in Game Pass at launch. Published by tinyBuild, patches arrive through standard Xbox Live updates.
Performance and Graphics
What to expect on Series X vs Series S.
Series X
Comparable to high-end PC: quick loads, smooth frame rate, grounded medieval realism at up to 4K. Forests, caves, and castles stream seamlessly thanks to SSD + GPU. Minor launch hiccups reported, but nothing game-breaking.
Series S
Lower resolution (likely 1080p/1440p) but stable performance. Same content as Series X; fast travel and loading stay snappy. No official resolution/FR targets shared; early impressions are positive for both consoles.
Controls and Interface
Controller feel and achievements.
Plays naturally on Xbox Wireless Controller; prompts use Xbox icons. Deliberate, stamina-based combat with light, heavy, and ranged options. Rumble feedback is included. Achievements mirror the 30 Steam achievements—great for completionists. Single-player and offline; no Xbox Live Gold required for gameplay.
Old-School RPG Experience
No quest markers, full freedom.
No hand-holding compass or quest markers—explore by landmarks and NPC clues. You wash ashore on Grayshaft in the Kingdom of the Seven; turmoil sets the stage for a gritty adventure. If you like Elder Scrolls or Gothic-style freedom, this is in that vein: open-ended exploration, discovery-driven progression, and a grounded, immersive tone.
