Availability on PlayStation 5

Launch details and platform notes.

Of Ash and Steel launched on November 24, 2025 as a digital release on PS5. The developers focused on PC first, but shipped the final console build day-one for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PS4 version. Published via the PlayStation Store, patches arrive through standard console updates.

Gameplay & Performance on PS5

What to expect moment-to-moment.

World & pacing

This is a low-fantasy open-world RPG set on the Fifth Island of the Kingdom of the Seven. No hand-holding: exploration relies on landmarks and NPC clues, not quest markers. Expect varied biomes—dilapidated towns, forests, marshes—streamed smoothly thanks to PS5 SSD + GPU.

Performance

Content parity with PC. Load times are fast; visuals stay crisp on 4K displays. Launch build had minor bugs, but patches are rolling out to improve controller responsiveness and stability. Overall feel matches a high-end PC at high settings.

Controls & Features

How it plays with DualSense.

DualSense prompts use PlayStation icons; standard rumble supports combat cues. No special adaptive trigger effects, but inputs are responsive for deliberate swings, blocks, parries, and stamina management. Swords, bows, and light magic all translate well to the controller layout. A full trophy set mirrors the PC achievements, great for completionists.

Classic RPG Feel on Console

Why PS5 players get the same hardcore experience.

Fans of Gothic or Kingdom Come will feel at home: you play Tristan, a shipwrecked cartographer turned adventurer on Grayshaft. No navigation aids; choices shape NPC reactions. You manage hunger, stamina, and skills via mentors and books, keeping that old-school progression intact—now on PS5.

Content & Value

Scope, factions, and replay.

Length & systems

45+ hours of main story, plenty of side quests, and two major factions with exclusive rewards. Three combat stances, multiple melee archetypes, bows, and some magic. Skills progress through training, not just XP, keeping the classic feel.

Price & mode

Single-player, offline, no microtransactions. Launched at a budget-friendly price (~$29.99). If you want theorycrafting help, use our build calculator and faction guides.

Post-Launch Updates

Support cadence on PS5.

Fire & Frost is patching alongside PC; certification may add slight delays. Early patches target controller feel and quest bugs. Expect iterative improvements—PS5 players generally receive the same fixes once ready.
